WHERE Do We Sing Praises to His Name?
Sing unto God, sing praises to his name:
extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name JAH,
and rejoice before him.
Psalm 68:4

For a short introduction sermon on praises, I do not have the 'text' of the sermon available.  But I can tell you what was preached and then about the activity that followed.  It was a good time and it was VERY scriptural!  We wish you would have been here with us.

The audio will be available and online soon.

Remember, when we consider singing praises, we must sing them to HIS NAME.  That is next week's sermon.

We can also remember that when we sing praises, we are singing AT OTHERS, FROM ME, TO HIM!

WHERE Do We Sing Praises to His Name?

I.  Where God is located!

Psalm 135:1-3  Praise ye the LORD.  Praise ye the name of the LORD; praise him, O ye servants of the LORD.  Ye that stand in the house of the LORD, in the courts of the house of our God...
Psalm 95:2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.
Psalm 100:2 Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.

As a New Testament Christian, we know that God as is located in the sides of the north, etc. We also ought to know that He is also IN US through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit (I Corinthians 6:19,20, etc.!  So, don't forget - everywhere we go, we are singing to his name and in His presence - if we are saved, that is!  That will be preached on in the In His Name sermon.

2.  In the Congregation of the Saints!

Psalm 149:1  Praise ye the LORD.  Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise in the congregation of saints.

Whenever and wherever the 'family' is gathered, we ought to sing some praises to Him, remembering that others will hear as well.  Remember, AT OTHERS, FROM ME, TO HIM!  We can also say AT OTHERS, FROM US, TO HIM!

This is why we still sing in church - and for those folks who manage to come in late and miss some of the singing need to realize that they are not just missing the 'singing', they are missing out on praising the Lord in the congregation of saints!

3.  Among the Heathen

Psalm 18:49 Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and sing praises unto thy name.
Psalm 126:2 Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them.
Psalm 57:9 I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people: I will sing unto thee among the nations.
Psalm 108:3 I will praise thee, O LORD, among the people: and I will sing praises unto thee among the nations.
Psalm 138:1  I will praise thee with my whole heart: before the gods will I sing praise unto thee.

This was where we centered in our sermon.  You can hear the 'details' in the audio portion.  each one of those verses has a good mini-sermon available in the sermons, but if you read those verses above, you can probably already see where the preaching would lead, eh!  We ought not only sing in church and in our homes, in our car, etc. but we ought to be singing among the heathen out there, among the gods of this world, etc.

We not only ought to be street preaching, we need to have some street singing.  And I don't mean some CCM rock concert or a hillbilly banjo party in the church - I mean singing God's praises OUT THERE among the HEATHEN!

So, with that in mind, I grabbed my accordion and got the folks to come up and sing with me, as we do in the nursing homes, etc. and have sung downtown in the past.  But this time, we may have even more support to sing among the heathen!

Heathen

By the way, when you look up the word heathen in the 1828 Dictionary, you find a very interesting definition of 'heathen.'  You will see why I couldn't resist a little preaching on the word 'heathen' after reading the following definition:

A pagan; a Gentile; one who worships idols, or is unacquainted with the true God. In the Scriptures, the word seems to comprehend all nations except the Jews or Israelites, as they were all strangers to the true religion, and all addicted to idolatry.  The word may now be applied perhaps to all nations, except to Christians and Mohammedans.  2.  A rude, illiterate, barbarous person.

Isn't that interesting!  In 1828, a Mohammedan was not considered a heathen but was considered to be right along with Christians.

P.S.  It went on to say that the word HEATHENISH means being rude; illiterate; wild; uncivilized, barbarous; savage; cruel; rapacious.  (Rapacious means given to plunder, seize by violence and force).

If people would only realize that the world was only civilized because of Christianity!  And now today, the world is returning back to it's original rude, illiterate, wild, uncivilized, barbarous, savage, cruel, and rapacious self.

In fact, the new modern Christian music has begun to fit the heathen look, eh!

So, after that message, you who are listening to the audio tape, you will notice that the tape suddenly ends.  That is because I grab the accordion and I get all the folks to sing as if we were among the heathen.  We went down to the Kids Club and sang to them, we then went outside and sang out in the cold dark night.  I even had one of the men come up and sing with me as if we were singing among the heathen.

Singing praises among the heathen is a real witness and a real joy for me.  How about you?  Have you ever tried it?
