Our Children and Their Music
|
Part II
Music - a Touchy Subject
-
a god to most
-
a drug to most
-
they know what they like and they figure God will like it to - especially
if it 'speaks to them' and makes them feel good!
-
they think it is a neutral issue
-
they are afraid to talk to their teens and children about it
-
the parents and pastors don't understand the power or nuances of music
-
it will hurt the local church to preach it truthfully
-
whatever music is going on in the home will end up in the local church
-
the Scriptures solve the music issue so simply!
Review from Part I
-
the devil wants our kids
-
seriousness of the dangers
-
would let a barbarian even go near your child?
-
The Holy Spirit would do the work in us about music
-
parents have to step up to the plate on this one, but unfortunately, they
have no clue and have a problem with music themselves.
-
This isn't only about the worlds music -it is about the 'Christian scene'
as well - EVEN the Bible Believers are being beguiled right now!!!!
P.S.
-
The 'church' has taken (been given) over the role of the family and home.
-
the pastor has become the dad - does the studying, reading and preaching,
etc.
-
the ladies have become the fellowship for the mom
-
the teens have their teen director - make them happy and lift them up with
a great self-esteem
-
the kids have their SS for their teaching - and now even 'character' training
and the church even does the 'family activities' - we must have picked
that up from the Mormons, eh!
People lead two different lives - one at home and one at church. (the
kids see that, too, ya know!)
Understanding the Book protects from beguiling!
-
People need the Book, not music - and they need it rightly divided (otherwise
it is just vain babblings to them). That would give them the understanding
necessary to protect them from being beguiled!
-
Colossians 2:4
-
II Corinthians 11:1-4
Music Beguiles
-
I Timothy 4:1
-
II Timothy 4:3,4
-
popular music history is a history of leavening... (purpose of the
golden oldies...)
Preach the Word, do the work of
an evangelist
Evangelists don't build churches - God does!
Kids are prime targets!
-
encourage the entertainment concept!
-
leads them towards more sensuality and feelings - Jude
18,19
-
puts images and feelings over words!
-
music replaces the Bible in their lives!
-
music replaces preaching!
-
doctrine goes out the window to feelings!
-
creates an appetite for 'artists' and their lifestyles, etc.
This issue is about:
-
thinking without the Book! -- Ephesians 4:17-21
-
stealing God's praises
-
money - I Timothy 6:9,10 - see 11,12
for how to deal with it.
Most modern composers need to be withdrawn from
- from such turn away
-
a) Some do it on purpose Ephesians
4:14; Jude 4
-
b) Some don't mean to, but still... II
Thess 3:14,15 - but they are still not our enemy
Folks need to put Jeremiah
1:10 and Acts into to their home and church...
Before we get into a few musical details tomorrow,
let's do a quick review of some Scriptural application concerning music!
